Welcome to the Pathfinder Hackathon!

Where we're calling on our Australian-based team to be true trailblazers in the world of work. Just like the explorers of old, we're seeking new paths towards improving the experience of our workforce, unlocking productivity, and building a culture which is connected and inclusive.

And just like those intrepid adventurers, we're relying on our values of care, courage, and curiosity to guide us on our journey.

As you embark on this journey, we're challenging you to put people at the heart of your thinking, be bold and innovative in your ideas, and push the boundaries of what's possible. Could your idea improve our EVP, lighten the backpack of our leaders, or bring our people community closer together? As pathfinders, we know that the journey is just as important as the destination. We'll learn from each other, collaborate to solve problems, and celebrate our successes along the way.

So, let's set our sights on the horizon and begin this great adventure together.

Are you ready to be a Pathfinder?

THE FINAL EVENT

Sign up to the event platform, create your team, brainstorm and submit your ideas.

Once the submission deadline arrives, it’s time to vote. Here, we’ll ask the Australian-based Rio Tinto team members and our Global Rio Tinto People Community to vote for their favourite ideas. The top ten ideas will be invited to participate for the two day event in Perth, Australia!

During the live hackathon event, finalists will collaborate with their team in person, spending two days paving their solution, creating a prototype, and developing a pitch for the jury. During your presentation you’ll have four minutes to pitch your idea in front of the jury and four minutes for Q&A.

So grab your exploration kit, rally your team and jump on the path to finding better ways.

TO HELP YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY

Developing groundbreaking solutions is not a one person job, even with your team you can expect to encounter some challenges along the way. Not to fear, along your journey you will be accompanied by both a User Experience Designer and an Agile Coach.

The User Experience Designer

With a creative touch, they’ll help you define and create the user experience for your solution.

Agile Coach

They’re going to give you all the support you could need. Their role is to help guide the thought process towards innovation, allowing you to focus all your brain power on the brainstorming!

WHO CAN BE A PATHFINDER?

Australian-based People Community team members are invited to share their ideas.

As a pathfinder bring your thoughts, your ideas, your compass and your map!

You’re not alone – Your teammates will help you find the path, use their knowledge and personal experience as valuable input when defining your path.

Consider including team members from different areas of the Business to your group of Pathfinders to create a solution that is innovative and inclusive.
